Grow up… again
Human adults have “grown up.” They’ve completely transmuted — in both mind and body — from infant to adult through growth & development in an identifiable pattern of structure-stages.
And then it stops.
Imagine how much growth we go through from infancy to childhood? Or from adolescence to adulthood? There is so much change in our minds and in our bodies, and then it stops. It is widely accepted that growth & development is arrested between the ages of 25 and 30. And from there, a long plateau, and then physical decline.
What if we could grow up, all over again?
Growth in stages is built on previous structures.
What is “structure-stage growth” and why should I care?
If you’re reasonable, you do not doubt that adults have gone through a process of growth and development. Every adult has gone through infancy, childhood, puberty, and adolescence to become an adult. No one is born into adulthood, right? There is also no doubt that development happens in stages. A human in infancy is physically and functionally different than a child, which is physically & functionally different than adolescents and adults, right? It’s widely accepted as a scientific fact that humans “grow up” in stages, each stage becoming a structure upon which the next stage is built.
Every human being starts the process of growth and development at the moment of conception. The developmental process is both of the body and of the mind and it occurs in stages. In the exterior, body dimension, there are well known, more & more mature, stages of development: for example, fetal, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. In the interior dimension, the mind also matures and develops in stages: from archaic, to magic, to mythic, to modern and beyond. Each progressive stage of body & mind represents a new and higher perspective — a new structure — from which to make sense of the world. With more complexity of brain & mind, we can process ever more complex subjects within the world. And because (1) the complexity of the world is out pacing the complexity of brain & mind which accompanies development and (2) structure-stage development is arrested before the age of thirty in the overwhelming majority of adults, fostering human stage-like development is pivotal for the future of humanity.
It was once believed that cognitive capacity and intelligence was static, but we now know that both are malleable. Similarly, it was once a generally accepted truth that stage growth ended before 30 years old. At The New Human University, we’re cutting new groves in consciousness and extending the growth trajectory of human beings.
Extending the developmental trajectory reliably & sustainably via praxis has never been done before… until now.
Structure-Stage Growth
- First, the article presents a novel stage theory and assessment methodology, known as Transcendental Pluralism, which measures growth of consciousness and hierarchical complexity. This assessment method served as the main instrument to test human stage-like development as a result of participation in PraxisAletheia’s one-year journey of evolution through the esoteric and advanced forms of Source Code Meditation and The 9 Summits of Transformation.
- Second, the article presents strong evidence for profound growth in adult students at the New Human University.
- Third, the article compares growth demonstrated by students of PraxisAletheia to that of other transformational learning programs as measured by other, more standardized assessments of developmental stage growth.
In 9 years, the mind of a child “grows up” into a more mature adulthood. The same degree of maturation of mind happens in one year of PraxisAletheia. There is almost no maturation during the course of an MBA program or Coaches training program.
According to the results of the before-and-after assessments, students of PraxisAletheia exhibited a large, positive change (28.51) in their raw “item sum” scores on the novel developmental scale. This large change occurred in one year and is approximately equivalent to the change (28.16) that adolescents undergo in nine years from ages 14 to 23 years of age. In further comparison, students of other transformational programs achieved significantly less developmental growth over the course of 1.5 years. For example, the scores of students of a coaching training program increased, on average, by 2.44, which is 91.4% less change than that of the students of PraxisAletheia.
Fountain of Youth
Yes, the title of the blog is provocative. But what is youth but the capacity for growth & development? One of the primary characteristics of youth is a pattern of growth in one stage and blossoming into the next stage. But then it stops, and the chase begins. We chase becoming younger and seek “the fountain of youth” when what we really crave is further growth & development, further maturation, further blossoming.
What is youth but enjoyment of the fruits of growth? No one chases the proverbial fountain of youth to become an infant! Those who chase youth, chase vitality and blossoming. We want to rejuvenate the mind and body to revitalize and to blossom again.
