The W-2 Humans

We all evolve. Under average circumstances, humans grow up and develop through multiple psycho-spiritual stages, the growth & development correlated with the predominant culture & societal structures. The “W-2” structure is an advanced societal norm in the U.S. that supports a relatively stable life process and reduces uncertainty of survival and increases the chances of thriving. “Get a job!” is what we say — perhaps with disdain, perhaps with hope of helping — to people who are not supporting themselves in a way that reflects what we consider proper growth & development within the societal structures.

The “W-2” is part of a taxation structure in the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with analogues in other countries:

  • Canada’s T4
  • Israel’s 106 Form
  • Russia’s 2-NDFL
  • Poland’s PIT-11
  • the P60 in the UK, and
  • Form 16 in India.

In the US, the IRS Tax code states, in part:

“Every employer engaged in a trade or business who pays remuneration, including noncash payments of $600 or more for the year for services performed by an employee must file a Form W-2 for each employee.” https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-w-2

The IRS provides a formal structure between employer and employee.  This structure provides a “win-win-win” for employer, employee, and the common good via IRS disbursements. Because of this stable, successful structure, a person’s life purpose can become, in large part, “satisfy the structures for win-win” — be a good employer, be a good employee.

For many people in modern cultures & societies, growth & development includes inuring oneself to the structure:

“You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.” — Morpheus, in the movie “The Matrix”

For most humans on the planet, “The MatrixIS worth fighting for. On the leading edge of evolution, we recognize the important function of The Matrix. The W-2 Humans have a purpose.

Entrepreneurs & Architects

Some people develop themselves from an employee into an employer, even if they are “just” self-employed. In the last few years, during the times of COVID-19 and the great reshuffling, many people left their W-2 jobs. Some of them left with nowhere to go, while others left to try their hand at creating their own business.

Statistics on entrepreneurship should drive people back into their comfort zone as a W-2 Human. It’s often said that more than half of new businesses fail during the first year, but data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that approximately 20% of new businesses fail during the first two years of being open, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first 10 years. Only 25% of new businesses make it to 15 years or more. So, the empirical data is more promising than the heuristics, but there’s one more heuristic that should deter the W-2 human from transitioning to self-employment.

It’s not an easy life, but there are some freedoms from being a “slave to the wage.” Those who stay the course long enough and their business makes it to 15 years or more, become Architects. Their purpose can be building new Matrixes with newer, emergent functions which support even greater purposes & passions for the W-2 Human.

A big, audacious heart-felt Purpose overcomes the pains & sufferings within spacetime…
